The past month or so has been a busy time for GCPB as we’ve gotten well into the local pipe band season.
June 1st marked the band’s return to the Bellingham Scottish Gathering, somewhat unintuitively located in Blaine, Washington in the lovely Marine Park. The band played well there despite indecisive weather conditions, ultimately sweeping the 1st place spot in grade 3.
June 15th, Greighlan Crossing returned to Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park to compete once again at ScotFestBC, the British Columbia Highland Games. There, the band managed a decisive 2nd place finish despite an utter downpour in final tuning for the MSR event and intermittent showers throughout the day. Congratulations to Robert Malcolm Memorial III on their resounding 1st place despite the tough conditions!
June 28th, marked the first in a series of performances for the Vancouver Highlanders Rugby Club, the band playing the team onto the field in their game against Barbados. The band will be reprising this role at two future Highlanders games on July 20th and August 2nd. Come out to Burnaby Lake Rugby Club for both some Rugby and some Pipe Band Entertainment!
July 6th, the band made it’s first ever competition showing in the Okanagan at the Penticton Scottish Festival. Despite the scorching heat and dry conditions typical of an Okanagan summer, the band played well and landed 1st in Medley, 2nd in MSR, taking the 1st place spot overall for grade 3, a satisfying and hard-earned win for the group. Special shoutout to our bass drummer of the day, Anton, who bled through the entire Medley set as a result of the harsh conditions.
Thanks to everyone following along and supporting us this season as we build up to our first ever Scotland run! Just one month away now!
