Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games
27th-28th July 2024 - Enumclaw Expo Center, Enumclaw WA
The Pacific Northwest Scottish Highland Games and Clan Gathering, in Enumclaw WA, is the largest highland games anywhere in the BCPA region, and for many competitors, both band and soloist, it serves as the final major event in the season. A culmination of a year of hard work. This event features a huge array of festivities and activities and is a must-see for anyone interested in these sorts of cultural celebrations.
This was a two day event, and GCPB performed both days, taking 1st place in both Medley and MSR events, including Best Drum Corps for the MSR event. The band’s pipers also took 1st and 2nd place in the Grade 3 Quartet competition, though it should be noted Greighlan’s all-women quartet took the #1 spot!

Skagit Valley Highland Games
13th July 2024 - Skagit County Fairgrounds, Mt Vernon WA
Hosted by the Celtic Arts Foundation, the Skagit Valley Highland Games are held the second weekend of July every year in Mount Vernon WA. The games have historically taken place at Edgewater Park, along the Skagit River, but this year the event was located at the Skagit County Fairgrounds, and was a 2 day event!
Greighlan Crossing placed 1st in both the Grade 3 Medley and MSR contests, winning best Drum Corps and the overall Aggregate 1st place. The band loved the new venue, and we’re excited to see this event growing and developing year over year.

Penticton Scottish Festival
6th July 2024 - King's Park, Penticton BC
The Penticton Scottish Festival is only in it’s 9th contiguous year in 2024, however this represents the continuation of a long history of highland games in the area going all the way back to the 60s. Held at King’s Park, Penticton, in the beautiful Okanagan Valley.
The Penticton Scottish Festival is not an event that Greighlan Crossing Pipe Band has historically attended, but we were very excited to bring the band to compete at the games this summer as we’ve been building momentum for our Scotland run in August. Finally we had a contest day without any rain, but instead suffered traditional Okanagan heat!
GCPB placed 1st in the Medley event, 2nd in the MSR and took 1st place overall, winning our first trophy of the season!

ScotFestBC: The BC Highland Games
15th June 2024 - Town Centre Park, Coquitlam BC
ScotFestBC is British Columbia’s premier highland games and Celtic festival. Organized by the United Scottish Cultural Society and other local groups, it is the largest event of it’s kind in our region, save for perhaps the PNW games. Held for the last few years in Town Centre Park, Coquitlam, this is also one of the most widely accessible games of the season. This event frequently hosts many multicultural performers and festivities and is definitely worth taking part in.
Greighlan Crossing pipe band took part in this years band contests on Saturday the 15th of June, placing second in both medley and MSR events, 2nd overall. Conditions were extremely wet and challenging but the band appreciated the practice for Scotland!

Bellingham Scottish Gathering
1st June 2024 - Marine Park, Blaine WA
The Bellingham Scottish Gathering is an annual outdoor Scottish festival put on by the Scottish Dance Society of Bellingham, WA. This event hosts a full pipe band competition, and a high level highland dancing competition, along with many of the other traditional highland games festivities. The location of these games has changed a few times in recent years but this year’s venue was especially exciting, directly on the waterfront in Blaine Washington’s Marine Park.
GCPB placed first in both events and won grade 3 overall despite the wet and challenging conditions.

Victoria Highland Games
18th/19th May 2024 - Topaz Park, Victoria BC
The Victoria Highland Games are the longest continually running Highland games in North America, now on it’s 161st year. This is usually the first outdoor competition for pipers, drummers, and pipe bands in the region and it’s always one of the most enjoyable games of the season. Held in the beautiful Topaz Park, this two day event is definitely worth making the long weekend trip for.
Greighlan Crossing competed in the Grade 3 band contests and placed 2nd overall, with a tie in the medley event lost on ensemble preference, and won best drum corps for both the Medley and MSR events.

BC Piper's Association Annual Gathering
30th March 2024 - Seaquam Secondary School, Delta BC
The British Columbia Piper’s Association is the governing body for all of the Highland Games and Piping and Drumming competitions in Lower Mainland BC, as well as Vancouver Island, and most of Washington and Oregon. Every year they hold the Annual Gathering (“The Indoor”) on the Easter Long Weekend, and this serves as the first major competition of the season for most pipers, drummers, and bands in the area.
GCPB competed in this contest successfully, placing 2nd overall in the grade 3 category. As always this was a great first outing for all.

16th Annual Burns Night
10th February 2024 - Bonsor Banquet Hall, Burnaby BC
Every year, the District 5050 Pipe Band Society endeavors to host a “Burns Night” event, which is a popular tradition in Scottish culture, honoring the life and memory of the beloved Scottish poet Robbie Burns. These events usually feature bagpiping, highland dance, reading of poetry, and of course traditional Scottish cuisine, including the infamous haggis. Our burns dinner of course features performances by the Greighlan Crossing Pipe Band, as well as guests including dancers, and a DJ. This would be the first burns night the society has been able to host since 2020 thanks to the pandemic and its financial consequences. This event is one of our main fundraisers, and is especially important on our Scotland year!
This year’s Burns night was easily one of our best. All the entertainment was great, food was lovely, and so far as we can tell, everyone had an excellent time. We look forward to hosting this event again in years to come
