July 13th Greighlan Crossing Pipe Band made a return to Mt Vernon, Washington to compete at the Skagit Valley Highland Games. This year the games were at a new venue, the Skagit County Fairgrounds replacing Edgewater Park which has served as the location of the games in years past. The fairgrounds proved to be an excellent new location however, and the the new 2-day format for this event served competitors and spectators well!
As is typical this time of year, the weather was hot and humid and once again made for challenging tuning and playing conditions. This did not stop the band from putting on a good show and ultimately taking 1st place in both the Medley and MSR events for grade 3. Placings were 1,2,1,1 for both sets, meaning the band also claimed best drum corps for the grade.
We are of course extremely grateful to the games organizers, volunteers, stewards, and our fellow competitors for making this another great weekend of piping and drumming.
Come and see the band at our last local competition of the season, the Pacific Northwest Highland Games in Enumclaw WA, July 27th and 28th!
